Meet Your 2017 Maury County Youth of the Year

A proud legacy of more than 60 years, Boys & Girls Clubs’ Youth of the Year program recognizes exceptional Club members who, with the help of their Club, have met personal challenges head-on, demonstrated service to their Club, community and family, academic success, strong moral character, life goals, poise and public speaking abilities. This exciting program is applied by your Teen Center staff to foster our young people’s character, personal growth and leadership.

With that, your Boys & Girls Clubs of Maury County Teen Center is thrilled to announce Jessica Harrison as its pick to represent our Club at the 2017 Tennessee State Youth of the Year contest! Jessica is a senior at Spring Hill High School, an “A” student and leader and role model within her school, Club and local community. An active member of the Maury County Teen Center after school care program for several years, she is best known by our Board members and donors for her beautiful performance of a Whitney Houston song during the Club’s 2015 Great Futures Luncheon, an annual fundraiser featuring many of our youth while highlighting vital Club programs. Jessica is also the sister of Teen Center Program Director Jasmine Harrison.

Next fall, Jessica plans to attend the University of Memphis where she hopes to study Criminal Psychology. She is finalizing her speech, essay and other contest requirements with hopes of winning the grand prize, which includes scholarship money and the opportunity to compete among the best in the southeast region if she first wins the state title. Those following our Club may recall that two of your own Maury County Club youth have won this prestigious honor for the last two years. Junior Ketron Hatton won in 2015 and Senior Brandon Levier claimed the title in 2016. Read more about Ketron’s experience, which was featured in the Columbia Daily Herald.

Follow Jessica’s journey here or via your Club’s social media pages as she prepares to travel to Nashville next month to compete for Tennessee State Youth of the Year!
