Your Gift Helps Working Parents Like Jimmie

When You Support the Club, You Help Single Moms like Jimmie by Giving Her Daughters Opportunities to Succeed

Destry (age 8) and her sister Charlotte (7) are two of the sweetest kids you will ever meet. When you walk in the Club, Destry is one of the first kids who will come up with a smile and start talking to you.

The two girls are being raised by their mom Jimmie – a single mother who, despite working hard as a restaurant manager, still makes being the best mom she can be her top priority. Their family has faced some tough challenges in the past.

When you support Boys & Girls Clubs, you provide our kids with so many opportunities. But perhaps most importantly, you provide kids and families with the extra support they need and growth opportunities for those kids who need it most.

Before coming to the Club, Jimmie’s two daughters weren’t in the best environment. Sadly, a hostile situation occurred at their last daycare that made Jimmie want to find another option.

Fortunately, Jimmie found Boys & Girls Club and enrolled her children in our safe, positive programs to better support their mental wellbeing.

You give kids a chance they wouldn’t get at other places,” Jimmie says. “The Pulaski Club doesn’t give up on kids.”

During COVID, Jimmie would have been out of work for nearly three months if the Clubs had closed while kids were out of school. This would have resulted in the loss of much-needed income for her family.

Thanks to your support, our Clubs were able to stay open and even extended their hours during the pandemic to keep serving as many kids as possible!

You Give Hundreds of Kids Enriching Programs at Boys & Girls Clubs during Their Out-of-School Time

This summer, we are seeing our highest participation numbers to date. Across our entire organization, we have a record-breaking 700 youth signed up for our summer programs. Six sites are open from 7am-6pm across Maury & Giles Counties.

In Pulaski, we are serving an average of 60 kids each day—our highest summer attendance since reopening the Pulaski Club’s doors in late 2017.

Our Clubs worked hard to provide an inclusive environment and serve every kid who needs us, to the best of our ability.

Destry has Autism and sometimes has a hard time fitting in with others, but thanks to you she has never felt that way at Boys & Girls Club. At the Club, you make sure kids feel accepted and included by their peers. We do our best to serve youth of ALL backgrounds and abilities.

At the Club, Charlotte is benefitting from programs like Power Hour, which provides daily homework help, and the Power Hour Store where kids get to “shop” for small toys and prizes using the points they have earned for good behavior and completing their work during homework time.

“Charlotte has formed great habits for going into the next grade level,” Jimmie shares. “I wish I would’ve brought them to the Club sooner.”

Destry is also showing academic improvement through the Club. In the past she wasn’t always honest about having homework because she didn’t think she could do it, but now Destry gets homework help every day at the Club because of your support.

Destry and Charlotte are so grateful that you believe in them and want them to achieve great futures!

With your help, the Club is inspiring a passion for learning in the youth we serve.

Since coming to the Club, Destry is now making it onto her school’s honor roll!

Jimmie’s message to you:

Thank you. You have no idea how much you help parents and kids. This is a saving grace. You are making sure these kids are not forgotten. All sorts of families in this community are struggling. It’s the Club that enables them to be better parents.
