PREPARING FUTURE-READY GRADUATES ACROSS MAURY & GILES COUNTIES

“Poverty compounds the problem: Students who have lived in poverty are three times more likely to drop out or fail to graduate on time than their more affluent peers…” – Annie E. Casey Foundation

Only 31% of Maury County 3rd–5th graders were on grade level in math and ELA.
For Black, Hispanic, Native American, and economically disadvantaged youth, those numbers dropped below 20%.
The graduation rate in Maury County fell to 86.5%, with even lower rates for students of color and low-income families.

In Maury and Giles Counties, too many students face barriers that make it harder to graduate on time. Low third-grade reading scores, chronic absenteeism, and declining graduation rates are clear signs that kids—especially those from economically disadvantaged backgrounds—are falling behind.

At Boys & Girls Clubs of South Central Tennessee, we work every day to change that. Helping kids succeed in school and in life is at the heart of everything we do. Through daily homework help, personalized tutoring, and hands-on enrichment, we provide youth with the tools, support, and confidence they need to stay on track and move forward with purpose.

Whether it’s exploring creativity through art, building a love for reading, conducting science experiments, or developing strong study habits, our members are gaining the skills to graduate on time—and step into their futures with confidence.

A year ago, I was the quiet kid who didn’t talk to anyone. Now I’m leading my peers at Clubs and at school, speaking at major Club events, and planning for college. The Club helped me find my voice—and believe in what’s possible.
